Hi there! ☺️
My name is Sally and I started The Goo-Free Lifestyle for people who:
prefer cooking and baking from scratch
are seeking recipes and meal ideas that are Goo-Free
see food as fuel for nutrition, physical health, and mental health
read all of the labels to check for Goo (bad ingredients)
have allergies, bad reactions, or inflammation with certain foods
want to feel better by eating better
want to build a healthy mindset around food and nutrition
A little bit about me…
I was a chunky teenager (not uncommon these days) and struggled with my appearance. At 6’0” tall, I couldn’t hide in a crowd, towered over my classmates, and felt like a moose. The popular girls picked on me all through high school.
As I matured and became an independent adult, I got more involved with outdoor activities like walking, cycling, and kayaking, and my fitness improved… but I just couldn’t shake the extra pounds. I thought that feeling sluggish at various times during the day was normal, and rarely had energy in the evenings.
I met my husband in my mid-30’s. A charming and geeky 6’4” soft-spoken man (like my Dad), with a large build, love handles, and a bit of a belly. We were a perfect match! Two moose, walking hand-in-hand through life, doing our best to stay active and enjoy each other’s company.
Shortly after we got married, we decided to get fit and trim for each other. The goal was to increase our life spans, have more energy, and fend off illness.
Over the 15 years that we have been together, we have both lost a significant amount of weight, improved our fitness and health, and have far more energy than we did in our younger years.
We only wish that we had known earlier the things that we have discovered about food, nutrition, health, and fitness.
What I write about
In The Goo-Free Lifestyle, I write about everything related to being healthier through better food choices, and…
How to remove the ‘Goo’ from your lifestyle.
What’s Goo?
I use the term Goo generally to include anything that is yucky or bad for you.
If it doesn’t grow in nature… it’s Goo.
If it didn’t come from a farm… it’s Goo.
If you can’t pronounce the ingredient… it’s Goo.
If you can’t make it or grow it at home… it’s Goo.
If it requires excessive processing to make ‘edible’… it’s Goo.
If it comes in a box with ingredients you can’t identify… it’s Goo.
If someone who lived 200 years ago would not recognize it as ‘food’… it’s Goo.
Stop eating Goo!
